Home Again

Five days.  1,000+ miles. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Down East. Home, and it’s a good place to be.

Every place explored leaves a memory.  From New Brunswick, this is what I take away.

Trees, lots and lots of trees now wearing their fall wardrobe.  I couldn’t help but think about how to use these colors in a woven piece.

Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews dating back to the 1800′s.  Compared to slick new hotels, it is past its prime, but one can sense its history and charm.

Kingsbrae Gardens with its walking trails, animal and bird sounds that put you totally in touch with nature.

Marshes.  Salt water is always just “over there”, but close to the road are grassy marshes, wonderful in texture and color that I could see woven in a lovely shawl.

Hopewell Rocks, another of nature’s wonders.  What was really amusing there was the sight of personnel there using iPads to show visitors images of the rocks in varying tides.

Old cemeteries, I mean really old, and they were in most unexpected places.  Judging from the names on tombstones, at least those that are legible, many of New Brunswick’s early residents were Scottish.

We wanted an adventure, and these last few days would qualify, but  it’s safe to say we’ve seen as much as we want to see of the area.  Nova Scotia, however, is still waiting to be explored.

  1. So fun to travel with you. I can just image the beautiful fall foliage.

We are going to St George Island in the Gulf for a few days with our daughters family this week for their fall break. It still looks like summer here but to our delight the mornings and evenings are pleasant in the 80′s now. Just a wonderful difference from high 90′s.

I have so many pictures to share of our England and France trip but I am taking it slowly. Can’t seem to get it all done.

  2. Norm and I stayed at the Algonquin Hotel years and years ago when we did a driving trip out of Boston with the Polands. I loved that place! We went to Novia Scotia too and I remember having the best scallops I had ever eaten at Digby.
