At the entrance to Rockport Harbor is Indian Island with its quaint lighthouse that once signaled sailors to beware of the rocks that are hidden beneath the water at high tide. As with many other lighthouses, it has now been replaced with an automatic beacon, and the island is a private getaway. For me, however, it is the sight that welcomes me home after another day on the water.
It is always there, unmoving.
I love it from all its angles
and at any time of the day.
It is there, an unchanging sentinel that symbolizes safety.

As a land locked Hoosier, I love lighthouses & chase them down whenever we are along the coastline. I remember seeing several on our trip to Maine a few years ago. Your photos are lovely, especially the last one! Love it!

Oh, I love lighthouses! This is so beautiful. I don’t believe we’ve been to Rockport’s light. Maine is one of our favorite places to vacation and we’ve been talking about how we’d love to go again maybe next year, if possible.
It has been a lont time since I have been to Maine. I spent many summers there, in a quaint little house at the mouth of the Penobscot river. Your photos are beautiful.

It really is a lovely sight. Out here on the west coast we still have several manned lights – an attempt was made by the government to automate all of them but the outcry put an end to the plan.
Considering where some of the lighthouses are located on the coast of Maine, it’s good they are automated. Living on an outlying island alone would be tough duty. Closer to the mainland, some are manned.

I am always enchanted by the mystery and romance of lighthouses. Your pictures are so gorgeous. They make me long for a week spent exploring a coast filled with these sentinels of the shore.
