At the entrance to Rockport Harbor is Indian Island with its quaint lighthouse that once signaled sailors to beware of the rocks that are hidden beneath the water at high tide. As with many other lighthouses, it has now been replaced with an automatic beacon, and the island is a private getaway. For me, however, it is the sight that welcomes me home after another day on the water.
It is there, an unchanging sentinel that symbolizes safety.

This familiar sight brings instant peace and even makes me feel a few degrees cooler!

As a land locked Hoosier, I love lighthouses & chase them down whenever we are along the coastline. I remember seeing several on our trip to Maine a few years ago. Your photos are lovely, especially the last one! Love it!
This is so gorgeous, what a picturesque setting. I live in Calif. and I remember the first time I visited the East coast I was in awe of all the history I saw there. Thank you for sharing these beautiful images. I would also like to thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment on my post yesterday. I have so enjoyed reading all of the comments and I loved how you talked about your blog as being part of your tapestry!! Have a good rest of the week.Kathysue
Beautiful. Your pictures are perfect. I can certainly see why that would be a welcome sight at the end of a day.
Oh, I love lighthouses! This is so beautiful. I don’t believe we’ve been to Rockport’s light. Maine is one of our favorite places to vacation and we’ve been talking about how we’d love to go again maybe next year, if possible.
It has been a lont time since I have been to Maine. I spent many summers there, in a quaint little house at the mouth of the Penobscot river. Your photos are beautiful.
I’m a day late and a dollar short, always – just getting to Thursday commenting!
What beautiful pictures!! Is that Rockport, MA? A million years ago, I lived in the Lexington/Concord area and often went to Rockport.

What a lovely and welcoming sight. A beacon to the heart. Many blessings, marlis
Are you back in Maine now? Lovely photos.
It really is a lovely sight. Out here on the west coast we still have several manned lights – an attempt was made by the government to automate all of them but the outcry put an end to the plan.
Considering where some of the lighthouses are located on the coast of Maine, it’s good they are automated. Living on an outlying island alone would be tough duty. Closer to the mainland, some are manned.
Spoke of you today as I took a friend on a tour of Rockport! I assume you are back- thanks for the tip on Beth’s farm market – Have already visited this summer and know it will be a stand by for me!
Hi, there! Thanks for the sweet comment in my blog. Btw, I’m admiring all your creative posts here. Can you please them at the Creative Bloggers’ Party & Hop? Hope to see you there at the party

I am always enchanted by the mystery and romance of lighthouses. Your pictures are so gorgeous. They make me long for a week spent exploring a coast filled with these sentinels of the shore.
Thanks for a gorgeous link this week.
A+
Oh my….those are some fantastic photos! I love lighthouses and the purpose for their existence. I think they are so beautiful to look at too
