Meet Lulu

LULU……..a collage……..a creator ……..a dreamer ……..an optimist……..a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, friend……..aka  Linda Lewis

Lulu is my grandmother name.   I  like it.    The name makes me feel perky, energetic, maybe a bit younger.    It has also given a new name to my work:

lulu designs.

Home is Houston, Texas, and Rockport, Maine, two very different environments that influence me in unique ways.   Houston challenges my creativity and forces me to look a little harder for what is there; Maine, with its rich colors and textures, fills my head with new ideas and frustrates me with the notion there just isn’t time to do it all.

For years my primary focus has been weaving, designing cloth for one-of-a-kind clothing and interior applications.  I love connecting threads and having them become a cohesive whole.

These days I also am having great fun upcycling fabric and threads from my studio into whimsical, sometimes practical, sometimes not, objects.  It’s hard for me to throw anything away, and finding new ways to use what is on the shelves has been a delightful challenge.

Life is a continual exploration of new ideas that comes from all I experience, and the joy of discovery gives new energy.  May it continue!

Why this blog?  Not the least of reasons is that it allows me to stay in touch, share ideas, thoughts and things I find interesting or amusing.  It opens the door to new possibility, and it  encourages discipline and awareness.   Through shared musings, we can all find our story and delight in telling it.  I am happy to have you journey with me and, perhaps, add your musings to mine.

  1. Hey Linda!
I’m so impressed with your blog! What fun!! Look forward to checking in often. See you soon.
    xo,
    Vicki

  2. Lulu it is so funny that you visited my blog related to food and cookies and here we are both textile artists! While you weave the fabric, I dye the fabric! Isn’t it grand? I also adore maine and have spent quite a bit of time in the pemaquid point area! Enjoy your week! Alex@amoderatelife

  3. Ah Ha, another Foodie, Crafty hand on type of person, a kindred spirit :) You have a great blog and wonderful new kitchen I see (mine is 1930′s old style Dutch kitchen and it’s literally pocket handkerchief sized) so “dexterous” is the concept I have to use when cooking for a crowd in it. We don’t do Thanksgiving Day here in The Netherlands but I can well imagine that this is a fabulous feast in which to give your kitchen a full test-drive work-out.
Yes a Butler Pantry sounds like a brilliant idea and I’m storing that idea away for the kitchen of my dreams.
Thanks for visiting my blog too… !

  4. Looking forward to your future posts. Love Maine!..My profile picture was taken at the Hartstone Inn in Camden, Maine last year. Just love everything about Maine!

    • Omigosh, the Hartstone is one of our favorite places to eat, and Michael and Mary Jo are among our favorite people. We did an Italian Foodie Adventure with them last spring and I posted several blogs about the experience. You might enjoy. I’m so glad to have you aboard!

      • I will look for it in the archives..My sister flew up there from Florida to take his cooking class…she’s a great cook..I just loved our stay there. We used it as our home base to travel around Maine. We also stayed at a quaint inn in Rockland, the one famous for its pies..having a senior moment and cannot remember the name!..

I noticed that you subscribed; however, you subscribed to my hubby’s softball team blog and not mine! LOL!…if you just go to: housepitalitydesigns.com it should get you there…
