GO TEXAN!

Now you may not think about Houston being a big time rodeo town but for the next three weeks it’s just that.

BarebackRidingThere’ll be bronc busting,

BarrelRacing barrel races for the gals

ChuckWagons

chuck wagon races and so much more with nice payback to the winners in every event.  The real winners though are the  young people who year after year receive generous scholarships which help them continue their education.

IMG_5968This time of year means cowboy hats and denim,

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAmaybe even a prize winning steer showing up for a spell.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHungry cowboys and cowgirls will gather round to tell tall tales

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAas they enjoy a cold Lone Star, the national beer of Texas.

IMG_5970Tables don’t have to be too fancy,

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAbut whatever fills the bowl better be hearty and good.

chicken chiliI’m thinking a good bowl of chicken/white bean chili and jalapeño cornbread will be just right.

It’s a fun time of year all right and when you are driving the streets of Houston you better be prepared for whatever is in front of you as you head to the rodeo and a concert by your favorite country/western singer!

  1. What fun. Florida just had a trail ride for our cowboys. They don’t do it every year, think it’s pretty involved with having to take down fences, etc.

  2. Looks like fun indeed. I like that casual table. I’ll be in San Antonio for the first time ever the end of April …that’s getting a little closer to Houston then I’ve been before. Have fun with all the action in Houston.

  3. I hate to admit this, but I have never been to a rodeo! I know it is fun! We are big George Strait fans and love the rodeo tunes! Linda, your table is rodeo ready and I NEED the cow napkin rings!

  4. Great photo story – I can almost feel like I was at the rodeo, and I enjoyed imagining what some of the tall tales might have been around the table afterwards.

  5. Looks so fun!! I rode a lot as a kid and just started again…I’ve always wanted to learn the ropes of barrel racing….looks so fun!! After my little one is born I am hoping to get more into it and start learning 🙂
